Creative Q4 2007 Reports Widening Loss, New Products In Pipeline

Net loss for the fourth quarter was $19.3 million, with a loss per share of $0.23, including restructuring charges of $2.4 million. This compares to a net loss of $12.7 million with a loss per share of $0.15 for the same period last year, including a $10 million tax credit.

Partly due to disappointing sales in the USA and stiff competition from Microsoft Zune. The Americas represented 30% of total sales in the fourth quarter, compared to 46% for the same period last year and 32% for last quarter. Europe contributed 47% of total sales compared to 37% for the same period last year and 49% last quarter. Asia contributed 23% of revenues compared to 17% for the same period last year and 19% last quarter.

Moving forward, Creative Labs has a successful launch of its Zen Stone flash-based MP3 players. The Zen Stone also receives an Editor’s Choice award from PC Gamer Magazine and a Best Mobile Buys award from Laptop Magazine, and also received very good ratings from CNET and PC Magazine. Creative will also be focusing on higher profit margined flash-based MP3 players such as Zen V Plus and Zen Stone. For harddisk-based, they will concentrate on the high end Zen Vision W.

We are also glad and surprise to know that Creative products such as the award-winning GigaWorks T20 speakers and Xdock, wireless Xmod have been chosen by Apple for select Apple retail stores and are going on sale this week in store. Wow, Apple actually going to showcase Creative's products in their stores.

Creative is also going to introduce 2 very important products in the speaker and headset business. And it is a very important product for the Made for iPod program in speaker area. We speculate that it may be a iPhone Docking Speaker or something like that.

More X-Fi news, they also invested in infrastructure for their OEM and systems business to be able to outreach the companies, potentially integrating X-Fi into set-top type boxes and home electronics.

X-Fi will be getting more common in audio boards and motherboards which was sighted in Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1 to be launched soon and also a MSI motherboard will onboard X-Fi soundchip.
