Solution: SD Cards Not Recognised In Creative Zen 2GB/4GB/8GB/16GB/32GB

Creative Zen 2GB/4GB/8GB/16GB/32GB
Problem: I've just purchased a credit card size, Creative Zen. I have updated to the latest firmware. The problem is that it does not recognise my SD cards that are inserted into it. The player just says that no card is detected.

Solution:
SD Memory Cards for Creative ZEN

Creative ZEN reads content from Secure Digital™ (SD) memory cards.
You can refer to the verified list below to see if your SD cards are compatible with Creative ZEN. These are the SD cards that are tested and proven to be working by Creative.
Please note that other SD memory cards not listed here may still work with your player. However, if you are going to buy a SD card which is compatible with your Creative ZEN, we suggest you get those SD cards that verified in the list below.

How is this a solution?

well, getting the tested SD cards in the verified list is 1 solution if the consumer is going to get a new card. And updating firmware is another, the latest firmware have some updates on solving the vulnerabilities of the SD card issues

Can I watch videos/listen videos directly from the SD card? Or that is just good for importing items?

Creative Fan said...

yes, you play a song from the memory card, but u cant use the full functions that are in the main memory. if you return and search through your list of songs while the song is still playing, it will stop. The auto bookmark feature, if you are in the middle of a song and switch the player off (on memory card) it won't remember where you left off.

Solution is way simpler that that, all you need to do is format your SD card to FAT, not FAT32 or NTFS, and your player will recognize it, no need to buy a new one.

Anonymous cuts right to the heart of the issue. But what enables her/him to do so while almost everyone else fails to even recognize it?

ylloh said...

Thats a good one! simple solution, just format to FAT. Everyone of us think too complicated, sometimes the solution is just so simple

is there a difference if i use kingston sd6/8gbfe?

Put the SD card in the slot while Zen is off. Turn player on, it will recognize the card. If you put the SD card in the slot while the player is on like I did the first time, and then try to access it, the player will not recognize it. A brain is a terrible thing to waste! LOL

I'm "old" and not tech savvy. I bought a new card. Insrted new card while player was off. Turned player on- said no files. Added files. It is now playing music from the original sd card that came with it. If I go back to the memory card window it still says no files. In simple terms, how do I fix this?

Creative Fan said...

is the files successfully copied in? could be something wrong with the SD card

Hello i have just bought the creative zen. i also have an SD card 4gb but i dn't kno how to put videos on the SD card from my computer. ya'll mite think i'm slow but this is my first time dealing with the SD cards.

its ok, do you have a SD card adaptor? can use it to insert into a USB port and then just transfer the video to the SD card. After that, insert into your zen and you should be able to see the videos

Will either of these 2 cards work?

how do I load music onto the sd card?

Jimmyboy88 said...

insert your SD card into a USB adaptor and connect it to your pc, then just drag and drop songs into the removable drive

The solution is simple said...

1. Turn Creative Zen on and allow it to power up completely.

2. Navigate through its menu options to find the menu option labeled "Removable Disk" and select it.

3. Your Creative Zen MP3 player will ask you to connect your zen to your PC via the included USB to Mini USB cable.

4. Do so and allow a moment for your computer to recognize your Zen as a removable storage drive.

5. The SD memory card is now ready and you may transfer files by any means you prefer.

6. IMPORTANT. Remember, before disconnecting your Zen to please make sure that all file transfers are complete and that you safely remove your hardware through the "Safely Remove Hardware" option on your computer.

7. On the seventh option rest and enjoy the new expansion of your Zen.

Hi, I have a 4 gb Zen Credit Card Size, my problem is when I try to play a movie, If I go forward it freeze and respond about 10 minutes later (for example in a 2 hr movie) Is there something I could in order to make it faster??

Jimmyboy88 said...

try to do a 'clean up' by going recovery mode that will clear off all those broken links but no guarantee

eshta ya3ni said...

are the 8gb SDHC cards also compatible with the 2gb zen? or is the limit of the 2gb zen a 2gb sd card?

Jimmyboy88 said...

size doesnt matter, 8gb will work if a 2gb works too

Anonymous said...

Not that anyone cares at this point, but I had the same errors with two different brands of cards. By locking the SD card before inserting it, both now work fine.

nice tip :)

thanks guys you helped me A LOT.i have my zen for a year now and i was thnking that 4gb was only the sd card and the player itself had no capacity.now i know that i have 12gb(4the player 8 my card)xD

Jimmyboy88 said...

with the ad card slot, your zen can go up to 32gb hee hee

Anonymous said...

does the latest firmware allow you to bookmark while listening from the sd card (zen 8gb xi)?

Anonymous said...

Cant seem to format my 32gb Sd card for my Zen mx to FAT systen rather than FAT32 as suggested in this post. Tried the Panasonic software but keeps on formatting in FAT 32. Message in player still comes up "device not recognised" Any help would be appreciated, also have latest firmware

Anonymous said...

The simpel way.
Goto dos (symbolo del systema) and typ format h: /fs:fat and there he go formatting in fat.
h: is the memory letter maby other in your case.

Grtz. JeeJee

Anonymous said...

OK, trying e; /fS:fat on a 32 gig leads to a 45 minute wait while it verifies the sectors, then tells you that the thing is too big for fat16/12.

IOW, fail.

The question is simple. what file system is recognised by Zen X-fi? it has to be able to recognise 32G as it is 32G itself. How can you format this thing to be recognised by the player?

(BTW, it CAN see it as a removable drive, and you can copy and paste to it. This has to be an OS problem. but creatove seems to be so focused on their new stuff that they have not come out with new firmware in 2.5 years.>> :p)

Does ANYONE know how to take a 32G card that CAN be read by the hardware to be recognised by the software?

When formatting an SD Card using my mp3 & computer, Will all of the data in my mp3 also be erased (or only what's on the memory card)?

Anonymous said...

SOUND BLASTER AXX SALES OVER THE PAST WEEK IS PRACTICALLY ZERO. BUT CREATIVE SHARES IS STILL HOLDING UP WELL. BECAUSE SHAREHOLDERS STILL LOSE! DUMMIES IN HIDING!

Anonymous said...

@lupe: only the SD card

Anonymous said...

Does the card need to be formatted before putting it into the ZEN?

Lupe said...

I have hundreds of songs on my creative ZEN mp3 that I downloaded using 4 different computers; (3 which I no longer have). Instead of using the "drag & drop" method, Is it possible to copy files from my ZEN's built-in memory to the SD card w/o using a computer (due to fact that my current computer doesn't have all of the data that my ZEN has)? If so, how do I do this?

Anonymous said...

you shouldn't be using zen anymore. they are no longer supporting it.

Lupe said...

What mp3's are being supported now? Are there any that still support "windowsXP"?

What a rubbish player..I'm disappointed by this piece of......It's android.... not a proprietary piece of software...

And any SD card should be recognized as we should have a the freedom to buy what ever we want as customer.
