Between Q1 2007 and Q1 2008, Creative saw its share halved to two percent. The biggest drop among the 4 major MP3 player makers. Apple is still the leader of the pack has only dropped a single point to 71 percent.
Microsoft's Zune and Sandisk Sansa each picked up a percentage point in the MP3 player market. Zune bring its share to a whopping four percent, with 2 million units sold (total).
The cause of Creative losing out market share is because of Microsoft's decision to forego its PlayForSure Ecosystem, thus affecting sales of these MP3 devices like iriver, Samsung and Creative. Another reason is that Creative is also focusing on a few models of mp3 players such as Zen Stone, Zen. They are also going back to its core business area which is the Sound Blaster sound cards.
However, this market report is for the US market only. In terms of world wide mp3 market survey, Creative is still No. 2 after Apple's iPod.
