The ZEN and ZEN X-Fi players are capable of playing back AAC (.m4a non protected) music files from iTunes Plus only. That means that if your songs are encoded from iTunes Plus that it will play on the ZEN and ZEN-X-Fi with no problem. If, however, your AAC songs are not from iTunes Plus, then you may have problem playing it.
Here is a method which you can make your AAC files play on ZEN and ZEN X-Fi using Winamp. You can easily get a free winamp download of it on the internet.
In the case of Winamp, to ensure that the song is playable in the ZEN players, you may try ripping the songs using the WMA encoder in Winamp instead.
1. Select the Winamp preferences and select CD Ripping option under Media Library
2. Select the Encoding Format to WMA Encoder v1.22a and click Close to close the preferences window
3. Rip the music and transfer the file normally to the player. The song should now be able to be played back.
