CES 2011 - Creative ZiiO Android Tablet




At CES 2011, there are tons of tablets trying to compete with Apple iPad. Creative Labs is not going to miss this party, they are also showcasing their Creative ZiiO 7 Android Entertainment Tablet - an Android tablet with excellent X-Fi audio capacity for your games, movies or music.

I have no doubt the audio quality is likely to be the best, the video playback capabilities is likely to be the best. However, I am not sure if they can sell 200k a quarter. They need US$120mil revenue to break even. Big Chinese tech, please come and make a takeover bid. Sim only has 35%, he can't stop you.

Jimmy Loh, where is the Ziibook tieup with MOE? Ziio screen input is more towards education learning. Don't wait till ipad tieup with MOE and Creative will for sure be awaiting takeover moves by Chinese tech.

Sim, Chay and Ng are original founders. Chay is still stuck with struggling Beyonics afaik. Ng Kai Wa is a director of Creative and he is selling in the open market at prices well below book value. He should have 60k annual director fees and tens of thousands of Creative shares. What is he trying to do? What is he trying to prove? Is he leading by example? Is he leading the group to a better future? Is he in dire need of cash?

I've tried the ZiiO in Creative store located at Marina Square. It's such a disappointment especially the user interface. Creative should move to Android Honeycomb and have capacitive touchscreen. Look at Motorola Xoom. It's so impressive and it's really a very worthy iPad competitor. It could sell millions like iPad. The only one thing bad about Motorola Xoom is that it does not support WiFi but it has the capability of supporting 4G. Creative ZiiO probably only tens or hundreds. Creative advantage is great audio and it also has video technology from the previous 3Dlabs. Hence it should be able to provide even greater video and audio supports. Creative should forget about inPerson too. This is a much better compare to inPerson.

Creative is working on 4G wimax, inperson HD elements in it and android 3.0 for their next tablet but it won't be out till end of year. Pen based input is still a feature as "someone" requires them to do that. Ziio will stay at least till 2nd half of this year. Creative shares may move to double digits soon. It could be take over play or something else about Zii or tie-ups.

creative shares would still stay at single digit or may be at 0. unless they GET CREATIVE

all that zii magic died with ziio nothing new happened since zms-08. no zms-10 or zms-20 . one year plus already

ZiiO is a disappointment. Creative always think i am big, how could i think so tiny like you? It's like when your teeth starts to drop and you think it's ok but more teeth starts to drop and you still think it's ok. By the time you realise, you already got no more teeth! It's like that BIG Apple, it is getting harder and you already got no teeth to bite it anymore. That Apple didn't rot. Did Apple says you can eat me! Nope. Creative test market... naive!That's a joke to me!

I think there's no quality control or Creative simply use cheap semiconductor components to "test" the market.

Resitive screen put off many people. It could be much better than this. The ergonomics is no good.

The hand should have the chance to shift the pages more smoothly and rapidly while walking or holding it with one hand.

Hence capacitive multi-touch could assist this. It's preferable as it's more user friendly.

One thing, I find lacking about iPad is a quick method to flip the pages.

There's still room for Creative to fill up this gap rapidly and patent this. Haa!!!

One of the first review on Ziio 7". As expected, sending android 2.1 for review is not a good idea. Maybe the site buy its own. However, the reviewer is quite fair, pointing out to the plus and minus of Ziio. Android 2.1 is pretty inefficient for menu transitions. 2.2 will speed up a lot.
"Whether via a PC or the ZiiO itself, download some APKs (Android’s app installers) and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to discover that the ZiiLabs processor is fast compared to what we’ve come to expect from budget tablets. It raced through the Quadrant Android benchmark, scoring a healthy 1,871 – and its media customisation translated to smooth gameplay in all the apps we tried, including the obligatory Angry Birds. It took 16 seconds to run the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark, and loaded the BBC homepage in a decent nine seconds. It also ran YouTube HD clips smoothly, which many tablets struggle to do."

Creative must address any software concerns and do an update asap whether 2.2 is coming first or later. The design for next tablet must address whatever shortcomings customers find.

I've emailed few time to Creative and asked them for RMA , and they simply ignored my request. I received one automatic email telling me that may problem was sent to tech-support, and I will receive the reply shortly.
But I haven't received any reply. 3 days lated I send another email asking the RMA (always trough the support email system) and received same automatic email and no reply. According to Creative sales terms, I asked the refund within 30 days after purchase date. But with their lazy support now those 30 days has passed, so I cannot ask for the refund, but only for repair under warranty.

And guess what ? 5 days after I've uploaded that video to youtube, i've been finally contacted by Creative, and they ask me if I want exchange the product. No question about refund.

When I purchased my Creative ZiiO 7", I did it with the zen mind, thinking that Creative is much better than all those cheap Chinese tablets, but unfortunately I was so wrong...

Conclusion : I will not purchase Creative products anymore, and I strongly don't recommend to all people around to purchase their products.

You have been warned, now the decision is yours...

so you are the guy.. its not really a proper channel to post your problem on youtube. from what i know, they will exchange it for you. based on my previous experience with other readers here some of other guys with faulty products will get them exchanged, no questions asked. there are some readers here who are creative staff. thankfully your youtube vid was picked up here and someone did get back to you. hope everything is ok now. can i know what are your expectations on the creative ziio which are not fulfilled?

but this really shows creative has a problem in after sales communication. this does not help in its inferior product quality

definitely a future $0.20+ share-price stock, no doubt about it. Best avoid

First of all when i've prchased my Creative Ziio7 it was anounsed as buy now product. However it was shipped with one week delay and was held by Chinese customs as "Forbiden product..." I had to contact Creative multiple times and ask them to solve the problem, otherwise i think i could wait till now. So when i got the device i've tested it and maked an video review. Everything was ok. Untill few days later i found that it has the sound problem which is recorded on my youtube video stated above. I imediately send the email to Creative Technical Support team and explained the problem. But apparently the tech.support team is one man army, because i got the reply from same women who sent me the reply to my emails about shipping ptoblem. So the reply was like : we cannot help you to solve the problem...your email is forwarded to next level support... That's all. I waited few days without reply from them so i sent another email to them and told them that if they don't care about clients I dont want keep faulty device and want sent it back for the refund. I asked them to send me the information for RMA. As i said in previous post, i hasnt received the reply. But when i had uploaded video to Youtube they finaly contacted me. So what i deslike a lot it's poor support. They are failed in my eyes, so as i told I will never again purchase ANY product from Creative.

if you can help, please stop the further weakness of the stock. Today it goes song and dance again and then weaken. If this persists I am afraid you are going to see a $0.14 creative price...yes no typo no joke, $0.14

Where are the supporters of creative shares? especially that one who claimed he made money from ipc and wanted to switch to creative? and where are those who said what MA crossing another MA, or what Mr Ng is going to make a big move....and then criticize others who are bearish of the stock as wicked one...where are they now? wipe out by creative shares???
