a few things they need to clarify. did the chinese govt officially support it? what are the partners they claim? when is it available? what are the detailed tech specs? what is the SRP? is it just a press release to buy time? remember ipad3 is coming next month and wide range of language support and academic support in it. all these crucial details are missing. due to high market liquidity, pple rush in, just like artivision. no one knows how high the rally can go and how long it can last. the whole thing is just repackaging bits and pieces of news since last year. remember zii egg saga and how spore govt and sph didn't support zii initiative and instead support apple.

yes, the hanZpad just make its maiden launch. we dont know if it will sell. ipad3 has no impact on hanZpad running on android 4 ice cream sandwich as it is made for china's education market. hope we can hear more news about its sales in china

we can also expect android 4 ice cream sandwich ZiiO to be available soon

3.8 the big collapse

ipad3 will have impact as it is equivalent to today's windows on laptop and desktop. moreover it is the benchmark for other tablet to copy, soon we will know. just that chinese govt doesn't like apple being us company to dominate their tech market share. it will not be called ziio because it's reputation is extremely bad.

Anonymous said...

hanZpad may not be ready. it is just some accumulated pieces of news put together as marketing ploy to buy some time. notice no date given. i believe it will be out eventually but question is when and what detailed specs it has and finally pricing and profit margin for creative.

Anonymous said...

resistance at 4.5. if it can't breach today or tomorrow, it will end in qq.

Anonymous said...

4.02 again. testing 4.5?

Jimmy Loh said...

not too clear about the hanZpad alliance. it sound to me that creative is not producing the hanZpad themselves but to out source the work to chinese sanzhai manufacturers and distribution by chinese distributors.... it could be an agreement with the chinese government to create job for their own chinese companies...

Anonymous said...

they are hoping to get royalties. as long as no formal agreement, pple can snatch their ideas, copy their design. chip wise, zii is only 40nm process. qualcomm and ti have 28nm coming and likely made in china. remember their design is patent pending, not patent awarded. 4.15 going strong.

Anonymous said...

take some profit as global market due for correction, in fact it has started. it can retrace 50% if 4.5 not broken.

4.16 good luck

most employment and revenue come from china. naturally seeking a dual listing in china stock exchange makes sense. let china people own creative shares and profit from it.

Jimmy Loh said...

creative will face piracy problems. the chinese dont care about copyright

Anonymous said...

Creative is always too slow. The Chinese are 10 times faster.. Whatever you think, they already think about it. Probably, they already have 10 new tablets out there. It should support both English and Chinese translation in order to be popular. It should make learning more interesting such as having a huge library of companion books which is free or little cost. Piracy is a serious problem there as they have low purchasing power and not a knowledge economy yet.

please delete the desperate double post

i think the crucial point is to have a close relationship with the chinese government. if the govt say everyone to buy the hanzpad for education then everyone has to do it. its like when you buy textbooks for schooling, you dont buy other textbooks which are not used by the school right?

The Chinese government will get Huawei to do it. Huawei has a dominant position in China. Both their government and education sectors supports Huawei. Creative needs to be neutral and cannot put all apples in one basket i.e. China. Apple has America as backdrop market. Huawei has China as backdrop market. Creative's backdrop market should be Asia. Singapore market could be small but is important for Creative as a testbed. Look at blackberry in Indonesia. Creative is right that America market is saturated. However the growth is in Asia now and it's focus should not only be on China.

the beauty of the model is that huawei can join the alliance without hurting its image. in fact the tons of patents can protect huawei in china as well as outside. proview is doing creative a favor by biting on apple and holding on to it. the longer it holds the better. it is possible this is the beginning of trademark and patent war in china if chinese govt is serious about intellecutal property. the wind direction has turned slowly in favor of creative. e.g. dmx tech is 50% owned by kddi but still get majority of chinese contracts. reason is dmx employs almost 100% chinese staff and has tech that china has yet to reach. huawei is using qualcomm chip which shows that it doesn't have the tech level yet and its mediapad is still not optimal for education usage. you can check the specs and the costs. if china wants to be first, it will allow creative to thrive as it benefits employment for chinese, enhance their world standing as the first to have large scale education tablets and the technology still remains within china. when the share price rise past double digits some big boys in china might even want a stake in it or maybe the CIC may want a stake and eventually we may see a dual listing in china. when the alliance spreads outside china, it will improve china's image as world tech leader and more patents will be registered under china. it's win-win-win for china, creative and the alliance partners. there's a chance creative hq may shift to china after the lease expires, if the alliance is successful. it is a do or die bet. whether they can succeed depends a lot on how fast they implement the software and the plazsma descendant OS.

Jimmy Loh said...

its quite clear that creative will not be manufacturing hanzpad except for providing some prototype or sample hanzpad to the chinese manufacturers, be it huawei, proview or foxconn

Anonymous said...

This is only for the educational market for China.
What about the consumer market of the rest of the world? This technology would be a waste if not picked up by others or manufactured by Creative themselves.
I think there should be a new Zii tablet.

Pity, what a waste.

No more creative bashing? said...

Creative itself is listed as a partner so expect a successor to Ziio and playchinese series. It is better to let ipad3 launch first.

Jimmy Loh said...

i am quite sure there will be a ZiiO that looks like HanZpad :)

Anonymous said...

it cannot be called ziio. ziio has failed.

Jimmy Loh said...

Ziio gen1 not doing well then how about ziio gen 2? ;)

For HanZpad to be successful, its digital textbooks and contents need to be certifying by the Ministry of Education in China. Learning Chinese leisurely is different from academic. OS and hardware is just a platform. I find the current tablets design are more suitable for the mobility world where you don’t always sit and type but you always move and tap. To make tablets more suitable for educational world, it needs to rethink about this space as I suspect it’s neither of these 2. There are some elements which are still missing. Not even notebooks or tablets can fill in this gap at the moment. Some innovations are required. For HanZpad to be successful, it needs more digitized materials. This requires the education department in China to create a digital library that gathers all the learning materials from all over China. If not, the schools won’t adopt it seriously but just treating Hanzpad as other companion materials which defeats the purpose.

Jimmy Loh said...

endorsement from the chinese government is important. if it is just a supplementary material then not many people will buy it

publishers and schools.

dual boot os likely. ice cream and powderful chinese os. best of both worlds.

Jimmy Loh said...

dual os tablet? not seen before yet

viewsonic has dual boot tablet. Some others have for various version of android.
