Creative Interactive Gesture Camera in collaboration with Intel

Well, you heard about Kinect xbox games where the players can dance, exercise or play games using body motion to control your game character instead of using the conventional joystick or mouse. Now, Intel and Creative is working together to get a mobile motion interactive camera that work just as well on your PC or laptop. Intel and Creative are offering their new invention, Creative Interactive Gesture Camera, a dev kit and SDK for a venture they are calling Perceptual Computing.

They are reading it into the future where the games will be kinect like with motion sensing and all. That's why they are creating this new motion camera for notebook. If this comes popular, Intel and Creative will be sitting on a gold mine.

We want to hear from you, please feel free to let us know in the comments section below.

You can't use much touchscreen with laptops and desktops or tvs. After a while your hands are tired and you will switch back to mouse and keyboard. Now we got something more practical, maybe they should call it the new video blaster. Hanzpad is still important because intel and creative are working on new generation tablet. Intel is suppose to be Creative Hanzpad competitor in China for education market. Looks like they are combining forces. formidable. sim might have deliberately hold back any developments until later on. he may not want to create another hype that does not take off. buy creative buy buy buy

Good news, Microsoft is also pushing kinect for windows. It is not difficult for developers to support both creative's and microsoft's. since creative's is smaller form factor, it will likely grab a portion of market.

good job. grow with the winner

depth control with both voice and video is the future. creative has both once they can integrate sbx studio in. this could be the equivalent of sound blaster intro 20 yrs ago.

by the end of 2013, there should be 100 million win 8 users. suppose creative didn't do well and only capture 2% of these users and Microsoft and others did better and capture 8% of the users. 1 camera likely can sell at least US$99, potential revenue can be US$200 mil. Put gross margin at 25%, that is US$50 mil. this exclude win 7 users which is in order of hundred of millions and they can use it as well. just like sound blaster, creative has to watch out for eventual integration of this kind of camera into laptops in 2yrs' time. on board audio kills sound blaster. so creative has to patent everything and license to others to integrate, get the royalty, just like Bluetooth. also note that Kinect has a longer range and support multiple users. either creative regrow or it should be eaten up by Microsoft, google, intel, asus, Samsung, Huawei or something big.

bulk of today's selling is from UOBKH. I bought some today.

critical for creative to move fast. else like hanzpad others all catchup and deliver already and still no sound no picture

Anonymous said...

creative is good at hardware and software sdk depends on intel. the main risk is whether intel will sabotage creative by kicking them out sometime later or intel lose out to apple, google and arm.

relationship got to be build over time.

Anonymous said...

sound blaster got kicked out of onboard audio, created by intel.

general consensus is creative is going to fail and go bankrupt => stock undervalued, hardly anyone knows intel creative collab.

hanzpad has became hansvision tablet

Creative hanvision tablet's brochure lists 9 partners for the contents of the Hanvision tablet! Impressive list!

big time partners? name a few

They are creative tech, wawayaya, creative knowledge, ziilabs, singapore publishers. Epic fail

Sim should sell all of creative including its patents to bigger ones like intel while there is goodwill left. His hundreds of millions of bet on zii has ended with 50 mil "rebate". Please don't waste another few hundred mil, you don't have that. Do some calculation, shareholders still can get good returns per share if you sell now. No one buys sound blaster axx, hanzpad died with ziilabs sale.

Sim should spare a thought for the 65% shareholders, they are the majority. Sim should not have selfish desires. If there is no breakthrough, sell everything and retire, good for everyone. Big guns like intel can bring your patents and sound blaster further and benefit all consumers.

Zii Lab UK was the former 3D Lab. Intel paid a one time license fee of US$20 Million and another US$30 Million for Zii Lab UK which is the subsidiary of ZiiLab (USA?) So actually how much of ZiiLabs Brain Power was sold to Intel?

Anonymous said...

100%. sim please sell everything to benefit shareholders, not yourself.

Anonymous said...

if zii labs was the so called billion dollar investment and the very little return. then selling it is selling a liability. ie stop lost. the p&l will look better with reduction in manpower cost without having to pay much reorg cost.

Anonymous said...

selling ziilabs uk is the only right thing they did. they need to sell everything and it benefits shareholders and all consumers. sim just doesn't get this simple logic.

Choosing a product or brand name that starts with Z is giving yourself bad luck. Most successful brands and products don't start with Z. Learn your lesson.

This is the best quarter for most companies. Creative is cutting prices for its products up to 30% to boost sales. Let's see how much you can sell and how is your margin. Gesture camera will inevitably be integrated and you won't get any revenue just like onboard audio. Sleek tablets are everywhere. Listen here, sim. Suspend your stock, look for buyers and negotiate the best terms for stock holders. Do you still remember what you said when you sought for listing in singapore under then SES for S$25.8 per share?

sim can also consider making a good exit offer using whatever assets he has, then he can continue with his "mountain climbing" adventure.

Sound blaster axx hardly any sales around the world, creative d100 top seller. Why? Wake up sim. D100 needs some capabilities of SB axx but SB axx lacks portability and no USB adaptor riles users. At least include AA batt compartment or tell users they can use USB battery pack, or include compartment for the battery pack or built in rechargeable. Plain stupid design on SB axx. Even economy do well SB axx won't sell because people don't see it as portable. SB axx price cut 30% but hardly and sales.

Intel just want 3dlabs, the last trump card of Creative. It's a silly deal to me. They could partner with foundry makers instead of selling. There's alot in SIN. Even the top foundry makers has a base here. The industry will definitely start to evolve here and there will be makeover to adjust to the market. Notice this industry won't go to China and the rest as they still have a long way to respect intellectual property rights. Creative should leverage on this strength to build more powerful chipset. Back to the standalone model of SB. It won't work, it's over. Now everything needs to be tightly integrated in the core engine. The smaller and more compact you are, the more popular and more powerful is yr product. Samsung, Apple and the Taiwan companies win because they leverage on their foundry industry to make more powerful, more integrated and more compact product. Creative is only fighting a losing war. Its product needs to be more compact and more integrated.

Step one, suspend share trading. Step two, look for buyers. Step three, negotiate best price. Hope sim gets it.

better than a fool who bought zii egg and followed the firmware revisions and still predicted that it is polished enough and also predicted meego is better than others. epic fail.
