i tried the thing with the press on play and power-up button in the same time but it gets me in the re-building library thing and it stops at the a.
i tried the pinhole, i tried unplugging that battery plug inside it and then plugging it back, it just doesn't work.

oh and when i plug it into the pc and open it, it tells me there's no battery like, 1 second then it shuts down [while the zen v is plugged to charge]
i really need help, i don't have money for another mp3 player.

Mine i plug it in to my laptop and it loads the library thing then goes to my last played song then it says it charging but it isnt it froze and it wont shut off. My Zen would freeze once in awhile, usually if I downloaded long audio books at 45+ minute per "song."

Well, all of a sudden it just froze. For good. The power button did nothing, resetting with a pin did nothing. Combinations of the two did nothing.

Then it would only power on if plugged into a computer with a USB cord. Still the same. It would reboot with the Creative screen (only once did it remain on it), flick to a battery low icon for a milisecond, and then move on to rebuilding the library, and then go to the previously stuck screen showing one of the "long" songs.

Then it would not come on at all unless I left it plugged in for 1 hour or so. The blue light under the buttons wouild flicker fast and eventually flicker slower and longer until it just turned on by itself. It seems like it needed to be charged enough to work, but if I played with it, it needed to build up a charge strong enough to start.

I tried different usb cords, different usb ports, different computers. I tried going into the My Devices settings and on a Vista I uninstalled it, reinstalled, updated driver; and on an XP I downloaded the MLT whatever that communicates with it...and still nothing.

I tried combinations of holding in the play/pause button, pressing power button down, and resetting with a pin....nothing. (all suggested by Creative Labs)

I tried software such as the MP3 Recovery Tool, the Zen organizer and they all could not connect or "see" the Zen.

I ran across a comment somewhere that said there was a Windows Media 11 problem of some sort but what caught my eye was the reference to the original Zen cd.

The cd had no "tool" section but I reinstalled everything except it wouldn't reinstall the MW 10 because I had a newer version. Then while still fiddling with the Zen, it all of a sudden said it was docked, aka "connected."

I started to run the recovery tool and could see it finally under My Devices (thought I didn't touch it).

Finally, I could press play upon restart and get the service menu screen. I cleaned it, reformatted it, and deleted the firmware.

The recovery tool updated everything and now it is back to normal.

My original playlists and music were deleted on the Zen but my computer still had the original so it is synching it right now.

oh wow i finally got it to work! i was reading so many things about it and none seemed to work. my Zen V broke in september randomely when i wasnt messing with it, it is now january.. same song was playing but the screen froze and buttons didnt work. i reset it but it never fully loaded, it stopped under the "d" in "Rebuilding Library". i opened it and disconnected the battery twice but nothing changed. so i did the power-up button and play button at the same time to get a menu:
Clean Up
Format All
Reload Firmware
Reboot
i clicked on "reload firmware" and it finished really fast. then i clicked on "clean up" and it was at 40% for a while but then came through. i connected it to computer and reloaded firmware i got from Creative's website. i turned it back on and again it stopped at he "d". so i pressed reset and booted it up in a few seconds. NOW IT FULLY WORKS! thank you everyone for posting such great ideas up on here, i thought i lost it forever!!!

Alright my Zen works fine but then my mom put it in the washer dont ask me how but she did, maybe by accident. Came home found it it doesnt work no big deal. Charged it then it worked a day later. Everythings good intill 2 weeks later. When it doesnt even turn on. I can charge it and its on, but as soon as I pull the cable out it shuts off and I cant turn it back on. If your Zen V Plus freezes and the reset button doesn't work, On start-up - Hold down the power button and press the play button at the same time and hold these two down until a screen comes on prompting you to "Clean up" or "Format" and choose the "clean up" option. then reboot. After reboot, put a paper clip into the reset button and now it should work like new :)

Thank God for this site! I love my little Zen V plus and it just quit working after 2.5 years! It would freeze on a song, not play or shutdown or respond to any commands for that reason. I would paper clip reset the thing over and over and still the same results, just frozen :( I had a credit card out ready to buy a new Creative MP3 player (as I will NOT use Apple IPods because they make you conform to their specially formatted media (MP4s) which is total BS and which also means you can't out MP3s on it - which the majority of music is - and you HAVE to use iTunes - NO THANK YOU!!) Anyways, I digress, but then I found this site and tried resetting with a paper clip and upon start up I held down the power button and pressed the play button at the same time and it brought me to a screen I've never seen before that prompted me to do like 4 or 5 things and one of them was clean up. I did that, then scrolled down to reboot and - nothing. It was plugged into the computer this whole time as well. I then reset it one more time and VOILA! It worked! All of the sudden the computer recognized it and it then said "docked" on the screen, which was an awesome sign. I then unplugged it from the computer and I was able to use all its functions again, just like new! I'm so happy I didn't have to spend money or buy a Creative product I was unsure of. This site is the Sh*t! THANK YOU!!

Hey, everybody, I read this and kept sticking a paper clip in the "reset hole" located next to the Line In port, to no avail. So, I started to disassemble the Zen as it was frozen with the power on - figured I'd disconnect the battery. In the process of doing this, I discovered another teeny little hole on the left side of the player, adjacent to the plastic joint below the screen. Turns out that THIS is the reset button - after I stuck in the paper clip the player immediately reset. Now I don't know whether my MICROPHONE will work as that was what I'd been abusing previously. So I thought I'd post this in hopes that just maybe I'm not the only stupid person to have done such a thing....

First i get a smaller creative and it doesnt work. then i use my brothers old creative vision m. thats is working perfetcly until one day i was in the car and it stopped working. then i charged it and the blue light flashes. then i use some of my birthday money to get the creative zen 32g. it worked perfectly until tonoight when i was fixing and audio setting cause the words were faded. then the screen went black like my other one. im beging to think it was a waste of my own $200.00. any adviced
